There are five major gods within the Seven Kingdoms, as well as many lesser ones that are often forgotten and lost, hunted by the dwarven God-Slayers so that the Divine Essence can be returned to the Heart of the Gods.
I’ll be posting one of the five gods over the next few days, speaking with…
Discord
Goddess of Music, Song, Dance and Passion
This goddess is the manifestation of music, song and dancing, and the passions that inspire and motivate such creativity. She appears as an ephemeral woman dressed in gauzes in different colours, her eyes normally shut as she plays the church organ that dominates her church. This place of worship sits in the centre of the partially ruined city of Discord, named after the goddess herself. Her music keeps the dragons at bay, and so long as she continues to play or to sing, the city remains relatively safe.
As a consequence, Discord is filled with music and song; sometimes pleasant, uplifting, even joyous, but at other times a wailing cacophony that vibrates the walls and echoes into the wilderness. While the local populace has gotten use to the noise, visitors often find it a difficult place to stay in for any length of time.
The goddess never speaks, only plays and sings, and her music and songs are interpreted by her high priests, often resulting in conflicting actions. Her priests are all performers, usually musicians and singers, who sometimes go on pilgrimages across the kingdoms, entertaining those settlements in need to laughter and morale boosting; others go looking for new songs to sing, or for musical relics in the ruins that dot the landscape.
Holy Symbol
The Holy Symbol used by the priests is either a musical instrument or the singing voice of the priest; a player should choose the type when creating their character. Priests also wears the symbol of a musical chord around their necks, which can function as a Holy Symbol is deprived of an instrument.
Bonus Proficiency
If the player chooses their variant of Cleric, they gain the bonus proficiency of Performance, specifically in their choice of Holy Symbol.
Alternate Power:
A player can also choose to retain the common Turn Undead power, or exchange it for the following:
By playing her instrument or singing, the cleric can effectively cast charm person on all those listening, but the effect only lasts for as long as the cleric performs, and for one round per level after the music/song stops.
