Against the Giants: Session Twenty-Five

31 Aug

Further exploration of the ancient dwarven ruins, brings the party of adventurers to a shrine that seems very much out of place in the dungeon: the air is cold, reeks of decay, and sends a chill up their spines as they enter. Halmary recognises a statue on the altar as belonging to the god of disease and plagues, and they quickly back out, leaving it alone.

They come across another bedroom, in which a spider-automaton and a soldier-automaton lurk and turn to attack! The fight goes against the adventurers, although Zarkov manages to bash the spider-bot to bit, before their luck goes bad: Ungrid is clawed badly and falls down– Zarkov pulls him free, and the dwarf is merely unconscious and with a bit of a rest will be fine, albeit missing a finger from his left hand– and everyone else continuously fail to land a blow, but thankfully the automaton can’t claw through Halmary’s armour, and he blocks the doorway long enough for himself, Idni and Zarkov to whittle it down. Idni lands the final blow, after a prayer to the dwarf gods when Zarkov blesses them all. While this is all going on, Corvin explores the adjacent corridors, and behind one shut door he hears something moving and sniffing at the door. He is tempted to open it, but resists and rejoins the others as the fight ends.

Healing Ungrid, they carry on exploring. In a storeroom they find a crate with a key-pad lock. Idni tries to guess the code, but triggers a trap and is hit by an arc of lightning! He falls, charred. He soon comes to, but is in need of a night’s rest, and they decide to rest for the night in the rooms where the automatons are made, after spiking the doors shut. During the night, they hear scratching at the doors, and also sniffing. The same sniffing that Corvin heard earlier from behind the other door.

In the morning (best guess), they find the exits clear, and move out… immediately bumping into another soldier, which is swiftly dispatched by the dwarves.

As the bits and pieces scatter across the floor, the door where Corvin heard the sniffing opens, and a pair of elven corpses shuffle out: with burning red eyes, twisted visages, and an evil aura. Ungrid takes a swing with his magic sword, cutting into the elf, but Idni’s spear has no effect; as soon as the spear opens a wound, it heals up instantly. Then Halmary turns them, driving them back into the room, where they cower in the corner; and are swiftly dispatched by Ungrid with his sword. As they finish off the undead [a pair of wights, much to my players horror], a spider-bot crawls up and starts trying to repair the damaged soldier: Idni smashes it.

Inside the wights lair they find some weapons, including a pair of magical swords: Sting and The Tooth Fairy; Idni takes the Tooth Fairy, Sting goes to Corvin, and Ungrid takes the elf-sword Corvin found earlier and renames it ‘Basher’.

End of Session:

# Kills: 2 worker-automations, 2 soldier-automatons, 2 wights.

PC’s KO’d: Ungrid (lost a finger), and Idni (minor scarring).

Levelled-Up: Ungrid (now Level 3).
