Old School Goblin

With the walls, towers and gatehouse cleared of goblins, the goblin-slaughters head off to the keep to deal with whatever goblins are inside. They avoid archers by crawling and crouching below the view of the arrow-slits, quickly deal with the giant ferret that was asleep in the rubble of the broken wall (Idni getting the kill), and between Ungrid and Halmary they manage to break the doors down and walk in…

…to a pile of goblin spear-men and archers, who open fire and completely miss everyone. Idni lobs a molotov cocktail, burning the archers,killing one; the others flee. Halmary and Ungrid each slay a spear-wielding goblin, then the cleric takes down a third with a crushing blow to its skull. The fleeing goblins disappear through a door, allowing the party to do a little exploration (killing a terrified goblin in the process), and then they all pile into the goblin’s throne room, wherein elite warriors and the Goblin King himself with his bulky Champion await them.

The fighting is swift and deadly… for the goblins that is. Corvin throws a spear into one’s chest, and Ungrid hacks his way through one and then goes on to cleave another two! Idni leaps at the Champion, wounding the more aggressive goblin, and poor Zarkov takes an arrow to his knee. Another goblin falls to Halmary’s swinging mace, then takes out an elite. The Champion falls to Idni’s magical sword, and the King eventually falls to Ungrid’s goblin-cleaving axe.

The corpses are looted, keys are found, and the ground floor explored: some more treasure is looted, and they find a stairs to what they presume is the dungeon below. They block it off, spiking shut the door, and head upstairs: a few empty rooms, bedrooms with little to loot; and then the grotesque Goblin Queen and her pet Giant Rat are found hiding in a walk-in closet: Corvin kills the rat, and Idni kills the queen, taking her silver crown as a trophy. More treasure is found and looted; by now they have a fair amount of treasure.

Zarkov, feeling restless, explores too far and finds a cobwebbed stairs, and spots a giant black widow coming towards him: he backs off quickly, letting reckless Ungrid in to attack the wicked spider; the dwarf gets bitten, but shrugs off the deadly poison, and ends up hacking it to bits.

The upper floors now cleared, then head back down to the stairs to the dungeon, ready to face whatever lies beneath.

End of Session

Kills: giant ferret, giant rat, giant black widow spider, goblin king and queen, goblin champion, 9 goblins, 3 elite goblin.

Brushes with Death: Ungrid narrowly avoids a save versus poison or die effect, which he only realised after he saved, much to his horror :)

    [...] Leaving the upper floors of the goblin-occupied fort, the party headed down into the keep’s dungeon and immediately encountered a large, powerfully built goblin armed with a whip; who died without raising it, as Corvin, Halmary and Ungrid pile into him. They explore, coming across a bolted door, with the musty smell and noises of some animal. Ungrid opens the door, revealing some strange monster: a shapeless mass of flesh covered in armoured scales, with a bronze, tooth-filled snout sticking out, and iron pipes grafted to its flesh. It proves difficult to hit, but also hopeless at fighting, and is swiftly dispatched; but the noise attracts three goblin guards, who stumble into Zarkov, all of which are slain by Idni in an impressive series of blows (a hit with his spear, followed by a cleave, followed by a third as he throws his spear at the last goblin).
