Dynamic Lairs: Caecillian

15 Aug

“A dynamic lair is a small dungeon or lair, created in advance like a point of interest, which includes 1-3 encounters.” ACKS page 236.

Continuing the series of Dynamic Lairs. Last week were the Bugbears; this week, the Caecillian.

The Beasts Below

In a network of tunnels beneath the ground is a nest of Caecillians. These 30′ long worms lurk near the surface, waiting to rear up and swallow their prey.

Caecillian x 3 [AC 3, Move 60' (20'), HD 6, hps 20, 19, 18, #ATS 1 (bite), Dmg 1d6, SV F3, ML +1, AL N, XP 570; swallow whole on a throw of 19 or 20, 1d8/round, -4 to hit; ACKS page 157].

In the bellies of these worms is the following treasure:

  1. a wrought bronze necklace (120 gp), 5,000 loose electrum pieces;
  2. an iron flask containing a potion of Human Control, and 1,000 ep, loose;
  3. a copper scroll case holding a scroll of Ward against Elementals, and 5,000 ep loose.

When running this encounter, have the movie Tremors in mind.
